Giant Eagle Coupon Policy 2015

Giant Eagle Coupon Policy

as of September 28th, 2015

Here is the latest Giant Eagle Coupon Policy that came out September 28th, 2015.

All Giant Eagle locations are happy to redeem coupons. The following guidelines apply to ALL forms of coupons:

  • The coupon has a valid expiration date and has not expired.
  • Limit one coupon per item purchased (store coupon, manufacturer’s coupon, or eOffer).
  • A maximum of five (5) like coupons per customer will be accepted in a 24-hour period. Like coupons are determined by value and item featured on the coupon and must be purchased in size and quantity specified.
  • Coupon value cannot exceed the price of the item(s) purchased. If the value of the coupon exceeds the price of the item, the coupon will not be accepted.
  • If a manufacturer’s coupon has a more restrictive limit than our policy, the more restrictive limit will apply.
  • Coupons are valid for one time use and are limited to redemption from inventory currently on-hand at the store location.
  • The original coupon must be presented. We reserve the right to refuse any coupons that we believe to be photocopied, counterfeit or invalid for any other reason.
  • Transactions with more than twenty (20) coupons will not be accepted through self-checkouts, they must go through a cashier.
  • If you forget to use your coupons at the time of purchase, and coupons have not expired, we will accept them with your Advantage Card up to ten (10) days beyond the date on the receipt.
  • Bottle caps are accepted for redemption as a store coupon with stated coupon guidelines.
  • Competitor coupons are not accepted.*

Additional guidelines apply for the following forms of coupons:

    • eOffer Coupons (Electronic Coupons)
      • Coupons must be obtained from our Web site or approved third-party Web sites (approved third-party Web sites are listed here).
      • eOffers must be clipped and loaded onto your Giant Eagle Advantage Card prior to redemption.
      • Not subject to doubling.
      • Cannot be combined with manufacturer’s paper coupon.
    • Printed Internet coupons
      • The coupon must be obtained from a legitimate site.
      • A maximum of two like coupons will be accepted per customer, per 24-hour period.
      • Giant Eagle DOES NOT accept the following Printed Internet Coupons:
        • “FREE with no purchase necessary” and “Buy One Get One Free.”
        • Any coupon with a value over $3 will not be accepted except where advertised by Giant Eagle for a specific promotion.
    • Check Out Coupons (Catalina Coupons)
      • Catalina coupons are not accepted at getGo locations.
      • Not subject to doubling.
  • Giant Eagle Store Coupons
    • Must have a Giant Eagle, Market District, Market District Express or getGo logo on the coupon.
    • Not subject to doubling.

Double Coupons up to 99¢

Giant Eagle and Market District locations may choose to offer Double Coupons with a face value of 99¢ or less where applicable when the following guidelines are met:

  • Manufacturer’s coupons are doubled only with your Giant Eagle Advantage Card.
  • Redeem any manufacturer’s coupon with a valid expiration date, worth up to and including the stated maximum amount clipped from newspapers, magazines or received by mail and we’ll double the savings.
  • This offer only applies to manufacturer’s product “cents-off” coupons for items and sizes we carry.
  • The doubled amount cannot exceed the value of the item purchased.
  • We do not double coupons that state “do not double.”
  • Coupons with a face value over 99¢ will be redeemed at face value only.
  • Cigarettes, tobacco and milk or any other items prohibited by law or the manufacturer are excluded.
  • Not valid on free coupons, eOffer coupons, checkout coupons or Giant Eagle, Market District, Market District Express or getGo coupons.

We reserve the right to make temporary or permanent changes to this policy without notice.

Giant Eagle Coupon Policy Change

Thanks to Alicia from the Giant Eagle Couponers Group for the pictures of the new policy.  The full policy is now above but I left the picture below that shows what they consider to be “like” coupons.   I also left the highlights of the new changes below so you can quickly see what has changed!

giant eagle coupon policy 7

Highlights of NEW Giant Eagle Coupon Policy:

  • Limit of 5 “like” insert coupons.
    (was 12)
  • Limit of 2 “like” printables.
    (stayed the same)
  • If a coupon has a more restrictive limit, that limit will apply.
(most GE’s were following this anyway)
  • No Stacking – not even store coupons.
(many used to allow stacking store coupons with manufacturer coupons)
  • Coupon value cannot exceed price
    (they used to adjust down)
  • Over 20 coupons and you cannot use self-checkout
(before they just said “large amounts”)
  • Coupons that state “do not double” will not be doubled.
(they used to allow any coupon that automatically doubled to double)
  • Coupon still accept up to 10 days beyond the date on the receipt
    (Stayed the same)
  • No more pre-orders.  As team members when they will be in stock or about another GE that might have the product.
Some stores used to allow this and some stores did not.

Does anyone know if it is in Giant Eagle’s coupon policy that they can not manually enter an internet printed coupon. I had a cashier tell me today that they can’t accept an IP if it doesn’t scan. But every other cashier has just manually over rode the coupon if for some reason it wouldn’t scan. It was only one coupon so I didn’t feel like arguing as I was in a hurry to pick up my little guy at preschool. But I was just curious if this was true.

I haven’t had any trouble with them entering a printed coupon manually. Anyone else have trouble?

I was kind of curious if this was specifically stated in their policy or if she was making up her own rules. Just so next time I can be prepared to say something if this isn’t right…lol

I work for Giant Eagle as Cashier, and we have no problem manually keying in printed coupons or other coupons if they don’t scan for whatever reason. Unless you can’t see the bubbles in the date field on the top, that usually indicates that the coupon was copied and not printed, and in that case we’re not allowed to accept it no matter if it scans or not.

Can I use an eOffer and a mfr coupon for the same item?

In the past you could but Giant Eagle no longer allows the stacking of an eOffer with a paper coupon 🙁

My GE let me use a mfr cpn along with an E offer. I was ecstatic because I ended up getting large Digiorno pizza for 2.00. Haven’t tried this for a month so will see today if they still do it.

Just out of curiosity, in a bogo sale, are you able to use (2) coupons-one per each item? I read on another blog that you can but just wanted to hear it from actual shoppers. Im from florida so the game is totally different there.

    Reply
    • Tammy 2014-03-10, 12:22 pm

At Giant Eagle you can however, Giant Eagle is only in the North-East so you won’t be able to find any in Florida 🙂 It’s best to ask at your local store what their policy is. Usually if a store rings up their B1G1 FREE sale at half-off, you can use 2 coupons when buying 2 products. If a store rings up their B1G1 FREE sale by charging you full price for the first item and $0 for the second, usually they do not allow 2 coupons since you aren’t paying for the second one.

I tried to purchase toothbrushes on a BOGO sale. The cashier wouldn’t let me use two coupons as it was stacking according to her mgr. Both items rand up as 50% off. Of course I didn’t argue with her, but I can’t seem to find that rule in their policy. Any help??

        • Tammy 2015-11-12, 6:31 pm

You should be able to use them – they probably just didn’t understand. If that would happen again, I would have them just ring one up – use a coupon and then ring the other one up and use a coupon for that one. They would easily allow you to buy one with a coupon and not think anything about it. Some cashiers/managers do not realize that they ring up at half price and they are stuck on the add or tag saying “free”.

I was curious if you knew the rules about the giant eagle store coupons I get mailed, can you use them with manufactures coupons? I can’t see anything about it in the policy, my example is this: I received a coupon for $3 off any cereal purchase of $10 or more it’s a giant eagle store coupon. So would I be able to purchase 5 boxes on sale at $2 each, use 5- $0.50 coupons and then subtract the $3 or would you have to be at $10 even after coupons? I’m just not sure what to do with this kind of coupon!

    • Tammy 2014-04-23, 3:52 pm

That’s a good question 🙂 I’m not 100% sure of the answer to that. I never receive these in the mail but my mother-in-law passes hers on to me when she receives them. I would ask customer service before shopping to see what they say – it may depend on your store as to whether they allow them to be stacked or not. The coupon policy isn’t clear on this issue. It’s clear that we can’t stack manufacturer coupons and eOffers but doesn’t really mention store coupons. Sorry I couldn’t be of much help. I’d love to hear what your store says!

I asked my giant eagle last week if the store coupons can be stacked with manufactures coupon and gave the coupon to them as an example, and stumped the customer service desk ! She took it to another employee I’m assuming a manager and came back with a positive of they feel that it can be used together, when I asked about reaching a maximum price I was told to use the store coupon first so if you bought 5 boxes of cereal for 10 it shows up as a 10 dollar total and then use the manufactures coupons. I was also told that if the cashier said anything to have them call over to the customer service desk. I’m going to assume tho, that this will be based on a per person per situation experience. If I get the opportunity to actually try this at the cash register I will let you know how it goes!

I just wanted to leave an update and let you know that last week at my giant eagle, I bought 5 boxes of general mills cereal (3-lucky charms 2-reese’s puffs) in the 5-$10 sale, I used my $3 off any $10 cereal store coupon and 2-.60 cent off lucky charms 2-.60 off reese’s puffs and 1-.50 off lucky charms coupons and they accepted it all without even slight hesitation.. meaning i bought all 5 boxes for just 1.20. I would believe that means we can stack store with manufactures coupons.. but it probably wouldn’t hurt to run it past customer service just in case :o)

Does Giant limit the number of coupons it will double in one transaction? I just moved here from Arizona, and all the chains there had a limit of 3 of each coupon for doubling.

    Reply
    • Tammy 2014-05-30, 8:55 pm

Hi Miranda! They don’t limit the number of coupons that double but they do limit the amount you can use per day. The limit is 12 “like” coupons per day for regular insert coupons and a limit of 2 “like” printable coupons per day. You can use MANY coupons as long as they aren’t for the same product. All coupons will double UNLESS the barcode stops it from doubling. If you have an iPhone, you can download a free app that lets you double check to see if the coupon will automatically double or not. HTH 🙂

Wow – so how many newspapers do most couponers get here? Are empty shelves a big problem since people can get 12 of each? What is the app? I do have an iPhone. I am just getting started here in Virginia so any and all tips about where to look online, what to do, etc would be greatly appreciated!

I think everyone is different with the number of papers they get. I only get around 7 or so depending on the week. It seems like the shelves are stocked pretty well at least at my store but sometimes when there is a really hot deal (like the free paper towels and 10¢ tp this week) that the shelves get empty. I just noticed that you said Virginia….are you thinking this is Giant and not Giant Eagle? They are 2 different stores but Giant Eagle is mainly in Ohio, PA, Maryland and WV but I don’t *think* there are any in Virginia. Also, the app is called “double checker” or something like that – there are many of these apps so just do a search for double check coupons and you should find many. There are free ones so don’t pay for it 🙂

Can eOffers be used on items that are on sale for buy one get one half off? I clipped an eOffer for $2.00 off two packages of U by Kotex pads and they just happen to be in in this week’s ad as a Buy One Get One 50% off deal. I didn’t see anything in their coupon policy that says they can or cannot so I’m going to assume they can unless you know otherwise.

Yes, it will come off automatically – Giant Eagle will actually ring up all 3 Pantene products at FULL price and then deduct $3.99 (as a store savings) so it’s perfectly fine.

    Hello!

I have a $5.00 off $35.00 purchase or more coupon, which was sent to me by Giant Eagle as a result of a new store opening. I also have a few other ($1.00/off) coupons, also from Giant Eagle.

My question is – does my total have to be 35+ or more before or after the (other) Giant product coupons?

As in, if I my total rings up as 36.00 (before coupons), and the store coupons take off 4-6 dollars – will I still be able to use the 5 off 35 coupon? since my total (before tax), will no longer be over 35 (if they were to scan the 1/off coupons before the 5/off 35).

    Thanks!

    • Tammy 2015-01-15, 8:51 am

This may vary by store since there is no policy on it – but I would think as long as your total comes to $35 or more before coupons, that you could use that coupon first and then other ones and be fine!

    • Tammy 2015-05-17, 8:52 pm

Yes, they double coupons that have a value up to $.99 – so a $.99 coupon would double to $1.98 🙂 If the product only cost $1.50…the coupon would only double to $1.50 instead of $1.98 since Giant Eagle doesn’t give overage.

They allow up to 12 insert coupons and 2 “like” printable coupons. Although you can’t stack them, if you wanted to buy 6 boxes of Cheerios and you only had (4) $.50/1 insert coupons…you could also use (2) $.50/1 printed coupons (assuming these coupons existed…this is just and example).
