Thanks to John’s wife for passing along her Homemade Spaghetti Sauce Recipe!  We are always scoring deals on those big cans of Tuttorosso Tomatoes and I never really knew what to do with them until now 🙂

Six cans along with a few other ingredients will make enough sauce for 2-3 large family dinners (around 6 regular dinners). I had to cut the recipe in half since I only had 3 cans on hand.

2 cans of crushed tomatoes
2 can of tomato sauce
2 Cans of tomato puree
1 whole carrot, peeled and rough chopped
1 medium white onion, rough chop
2 cloves garlic, minced
Salt and pepper, to taste
fresh basil

*Combine all ingredients (except the fresh basil) in a large crock pot and put on low for 8 hours.
*Use an immersion blender to puree
*Add in fresh chopped basil

*You can also make meatballs and italian sausage to add to the sauce.  John recommends browning the meatballs and sausage in the broiler first to render out some of the fat. Then simply add them to the crockpot when all the other ingredients are added.

This Spaghetti Sauce not only tastes great but it also freezes well. John and his wife freeze it in quart-size deli containers which he fills only 90% to allow for expanding.

If you are like me and don’t own an Immersion Hand Blender yet, Amazon has many different ones including the Cuisinart CSB-79 Smart Stick 2-Speed 200-watt Immersion Hand Blender with Attachments pictured below.  I don’t own one yet but this may just go on my Christmas wish list 😉  Not only can you mix Spaghetti Sauce, you can also blend drinks, puree soups, mix pancake batter and much more!

Thanks again to John and his wife for this recipe!

  1. This recipe sounds amazing!! We’ll have to try it!! Instead of freezing, we’re going to try to can it….since our freezer is full of cheap meats!! lol

One thing about the immersion blender….that one would be amazing….but the cheap $15 to $20 ones at Walmart do the same thing….we’ve had our Hamilton Beach one just like this that my husband paid $10 for 10 years ago and it still runs and does the job perfectly!~! I do want a new one, which I’ll consider the one you posted because I love the attachments!! hehe Just thought I’d let you know!! 🙂 Maybe you don’t have to wait until Christmas to get one!!! lol

    • Thanks Jennifer! I never know when to get the “good” one or just the “cheap” one for things like this. I know for my regular blender that the cheap to medium priced ones are just as good. I’ve been thru soooo many blenders, toasters, mixers, griddles, etc. since I first got married! I even bought a blender for over $100 and it still broke so now I go for the $20ish dollar ones 😉
I liked these attachments too! I can’t believe I’ve never own one of these!
