Giant Eagle Shopping Trip

in Giant Eagle

I ran into Giant Eagle for a quick trip and was able to get 36 items (1 skillet sauce is missing from the picture) for a total of $49.28 (an average of $1.37 per item!) This may not sound like a Super deal, but considering that I have a big package of spinach ($4.99- for Hubby), (2) 6-packs of paper towels and 2 contact solutions makes it a super deal!  The only item that has a regular price less than $1.37 is the Good ‘n Natural Bar (I’m not a big fan of these but it was free with coupon).

Here are the deals I scored if you want to get in on them too!  Stay tuned tomorrow when I post the Best Giant Eagle Deals roundup!

NOT a good deal at ALL :(  ……..I forgot to grab some when I was at Kroger yesterday!  While I think that Giant Eagle is an AMAZING place to score lots of great deals, usually they are not the best place to grab fruits and veggies.  I find places like Kroger, Walmart, Aldi and Good Cents to be a better place for those kinds of items.  I would guess that Bottom Dollar would also have great fruits and veggies deals, but I personally haven’t shopped there.

My personal opinion with couponing is that you should have 2 main stores to focus on plus 1 drugstore….Sure you’ll miss a few deals here and there by not going to EVERY store near you but you will also not go Crazy ;)  Your time is also valuable.

My main stores are Giant Eagle which of course is my favorite place to coupon!, Kroger – I’ll sometimes run in without any coupons since their fruit, veggie, and milk prices are much better, and Rite Aid – I usually on shop there once a week on Sunday while getting my newspapers.  If there is an item at Walmart that is a great deal after a coupon, I will stop in there once in a while since it’s near Kroger  but it’s definitely not weekly :)

Is the tyson chicken by the refrigerated lunch meat or freezer section?

It’s the one in the refrigerated section – my store has them by the hot dogs, lunch meat, etc.

Glad to see I’m not the only who bought 5 Aunt Jemima syrups! Regular price is crazy for these and we needed some to go with all the Bisquik last week! Thanks for showing me how to buy something’s that last to save more – I used to think people were crazy, but I see how that savings adds up!

The regular price is crazy :) I *may* go back to grab 5 more since we do use a lot of syrup. I have eaten Aunt Jemima Lite since I was a little kid….my favorite! Pancakes for dinner can be yummy :)

I also got 4 Skillet sauces. I got 2 marsala and 2 toasted sesame. I hope they’re good. It’ll go good with the Tyson Grilled and ready chicken that I got 4 of. Sounds like a quick meal. I could not bring myself to buy any of the Go soups even though it’s a great price. All of the flavor combo’s sound disgusting and I’m not really a picky eater. Did you try the Skillet sauce or the Go soup yet?

I haven’t tried either of them yet. I know what you mean about the go soup….I wasn’t even sure I could pronounce all of the names – lol :) I grabbed one of each and kept 2 coupons back in case we eat one and really like it, I’ll be able to grab 2 more. Has anyone else tried the Go Soup or Skillet meals?

The Campbell’s Go Soup Page shows a list of all the ones available: http://www.campbellsgo.com I’m thinking the Creamy Red Pepper with Smoked Gouda and the Golden Lentil with Madras Curry would both have no meat. The skillet Sauces website is here: http://origin.www.campbellskitchen.com/campbellsauces/ It’s a pretty cool page. the sauces will spin and you can click on the one you are interested in.

When it comes to the two like printed coupons, is it per visit or per transaction? A few weeks ago when Chobani was on sale, I tried to split up orders so I could get more than two. The manager had to come over since they wouldn’t scan (I posted about that – thanks again for your reply, Tammy!) and said that I could only use two and couldn’t split them up into different transactions. On their website it just says only two like printed coupons…nothing about per transaction or visit.

Do you have an idea of which it is?

I’m thinking this one is probably up to the store’s interpretation…..it’s weird how they clarified the 12 “like” coupons so nicely but they didn’t clairfy the 2 “like” internet coupons. My store allows me to split them up into transactions with no problem but other stores may only accept 2 per shopping trip. I’m wondering if it’s just because your coupons beeped and the manager had to come over? Have you ever tried with coupons that don’t beep and see if they say anything? I know I probably say this a lot but the cashiers at my store are really outstanding. They are all really fast and very pleasant to be around. They scan the coupons really quickly and throw any that beep to the side to push thru at the end. I’m sure they read the ones that beep a little just to make sure that I did purchase the item, the date is correct, etc. but they never give a hassle over them. I hardly EVER go into SNS but I ran in yesterday to get eggs (they were only 99¢ and we go thru many dozens a week) and to get the pierogies that were on sale. I got 6 perogies and used (2) $1/3 coupons. After scanning my order and getting ready to put the coupons thru the cashier looked at me and said in a not-so-nice tone “Let me explain something to you”….and then she looked down at all 6 boxes and said “never mind”?! So without even counting my Pierogies she was going to rudely tell me that I couldn’t use the coupons because I didn’t buy enough item….ugh! Some people are just in bad moods ;) So when I do get attitudes like this from cashiers it makes me appreciate the ones at my local GE that much more! Back to the subject – haha. I would give it another try with coupons that you don’t think will beep and with a cashier that “looks” nice. Usually it’s the younger guys (the gals at my store rock too though!). Let us know if you are able to split them up next time:)

I have 2 GE 5 miles apart. One lets me split up my transactions and the other will only let me use 2 internet coupons per day. Not sure if your store has self checkout, but the “coupon friendly” store lets me do my transactions at the self checkouts as long as I don’t have competitor coupons to use.

Oh my gosh, Tammy…I totally agree with you about the younger guys! Except at my GE, it’s just men in general. It seems like the women aren’t a huge fan of all of my coupons. The guys there are in shock of the coupons! If I have a big order, they’re actually ok with more than 2 like coupons. They count them up at the end (why? I’m not sure…they still let us go with more than 2, so why count!). But I already I did my shopping yesterday and wanted to go to get a few more items – like those Beechnut foods, more skillets, etc. I was afraid that with so little purchased that they would let me go with the more than 2 coupons. So I was planning on going to a person first then going back in for self check. If I find someone I know/seems nice enough, I’ll try splitting them up into two seperate transactions…that will save me tons of time and energy! I think it’d be nice if they’d clarify better though in the policy whether it’s per transaction or day! Would make things like this alot easier :)

I’ll give a post tomorrow after I go to let you know how this GE adventure went!

I have tried 2 different Skillet Sauce and both were GREAT! Just last night I made the Garlic and Wine Scampi one with shrimp and scallops over angel hair and it was really good. Even my husband commented on what a great dinner it was. I’m REALLY picky about canned/jarred/packaged sauces and this one gets a huge thumbs up.

I LOVED Aunt Jemima syrup – but since they put high fructose corn syrup, I can no longer have it! The next best thing, is Log Cabin….I think it’s the only one that doesn’t have HFCS in it….but it still tastes amazing!!

The two transactions did infact work! I guess it depends on which store you go to :)

Where did you find the skillet sauces at? I wasn’t able to find them when I went shopping at the ge in Washington. Thanks.

I wasn’t in Washington…..but I’ve shopped at that one in the past ;) Mine were located across from the soups….I was thinking they would be on the same side for some reason so I passed them up the first time. I can’t think of what else was located on that side though – I’m thinking it was the ketchup, mustard and sauce area. They were down low which can be a little tricky when looking for something :)
