Giant Eagle’s NEW Coupon Policy is causing a lot of confusion for many of us! I’m guessing cashiers, managers and customer service people are still figuring it all out. Here is my original post about the new Giant Eagle Coupon policy.
I will be calling and talking to customer service soon to see if I can help answer all the questions that you guys may have but I need your help! What questions would you like answered?
Here are ones below that I plan on asking but please leave a comment with other questions!
*Will you accept coupons from the CVS coupon machine? (Thanks Angie!)
*Can we use Register Rewards from Walgreens? (Thanks Melissa)
*Will they take catalina coupons from other stores? (Thanks Barb). It does state in their policy that they will not, but I’m wondering if they forgot to take that part out now that they accept competitor’s coupons.
*Can you “stack” other store coupons like Target and Rite Aid WITH a Manufacturer coupon? (Thanks Vicki)
*Can you use a coupon that states “redeemable ONLY at Walmart, etc.” ? (Thanks Vicki!)
*Can we use $4/$20 CVS coupon? (thanks Karla) – I’m guessing this one will be fine.
*Does “pharmacy retailer” mean that we can use Rite Aid Video Values and +UP Rewards?
*Will they take CVS ECB’s (and Wags RR)? (thanks Barb!)
My two cents…..don’t take this as the truth, I am just thinking out loud;)
I think Giant Eagle is wanting to accept those $X/$XX coupons that we sometimes get from other stores. This way we are shopping at Giant Eagle instead of being lured into those other stores
I also think they are wanting us to use the manufacturer coupons that we get from other stores. I know I get a lot of manufacturer coupons in the mail from Kroger that have the Kroger Logo on them that aren’t “store” coupons so I could technically use them anywhere that coupons are allowed and the store would get reimbursed.
I doubt that they want us to use Register Rewards, Extra Care Bucks, or +UP Rewards – they will not get reimbursed for these.
Giant Eagle still having that they don’t accept catalina coupons from other stores in their policy is confusing me?! From what I know, they would get reimbursed for these….but I could be wrong.

*Can we use $4/$20 CVS coupon? (thanks Karla) —Will they take IP versions of these? Or does the $3 IP limit still apply? I’m thinking they will not, but it never hurts to ask!
A definitive list of stores they consider competitors would be so helpful!
I noticed that they will not accept printed coupons over $3 dollars, so I wonder if the CVS coupon that is $4/$20 (that you print out or send to your card) won’t work. Not for sure though. Worth checking out.
Have you read the thread on HCW- Hot Coupon World – in the Giant Eagle forum? A few questions were answered there.
I have a general question for everyone. Do you often run into the limit on the registers where coupons cannot exceed a certain percentage of the purchase? I try to buy my items in bigger transactions where I have lots of stuff (including non-coupon produce, milk, etc.), but still find that I hit this limit virtually every time and then have to put up with a stalled check-out process and general disgruntlement among the cashiers/staff. How do you get around it? Sometimes I find myself hard-pressed to think of non-coupon items to purchase so I can beef up the transaction.
I apologize, I realize several stores are mentioned in this thread. I am referring to Giant Eagle.
That has only happened to me at the self checkout, which is why I hardly bother using it anymore, even though I prefer to. Every time I try to scan several coupons it starts beeping and I have to get an associate to override all of my remaining coupons.
I have had the register freeze up a couple of times. But this had happened only when I had a ton of coupons and the store was extremely busy. The cashier just waited a bit to let it catch up.
I didn’t realize that there is a percentage of the order that you can’t exceed. More info on that?
I’ve also only had this problem with the self checkout. Usually, they just come swipe their card and you’re good to go again. But, I agree, the self check outs are more trouble than they’re worth!
wonder if they will start to stack their e-coupons with mfq again?
some advice for SELF CHECK OUT:
Thi si swhat will make them ebep (In My Experience)
Any more than 3 of the same Q
If you save (including Advatage card savings, q’s, etc) more than 30% of your bill
Any catalina Q
any Q over $2
* Addition to this list is COmpetitor coupons will not scan now as well
Will Giant Eagle accept coupons from the Walgreens monthly savings book? Can I stack a Wags coupon with a manufacture coupon?
I called corporate yesterday before heading to my local Giant Eagle and they said they would take Register Rewards and Extra Care Bucks. I was a little skeptical as my GE clerks are always a little…off shall we say…but I asked before handing them to the cashier and she said they did take them. I used $6RR and $4RR that would have expired yesterday!! Was very happy with the outcome.
I’m confused, because on their FB page on Thursday:
Since you accept Competitor’s Coupons would I be able to use the Extra Care Bucks from CVS at your store?
Thursday at 1:30pm near Conneaut, OH
Giant Eagle Hi, Justin. Only Catalina coupons that say ‘Redeemable at Giant Eagle’ will be accepted. Thank you.
Can I stack a $2.00 off 1 Hershey’s Simple Pleasures manufacturer’s coupon from the newspaper with a Target printable coupon for $1.00 off 1?
Is there a geographic limit on competitor’s coupons? Publix tends to accept competitor’s coupons from stores in a 3 mile radius so each Publix store accepts different stores as competitors. They have a sign posted in each store saying who they consider a competitor.
If I bring home Publix store coupons can I use those at Giant Eagle in Ohio?
I would like to know if they consider using a “store” coupon and a manufacturer coupon together stacking? I already had issues with this today where my local GE would not let me use a competitor’s “store” coupon (and by this I mean not a manufacturer’s coupon but a $ off store coupon) with a MQ. I wasn’t going to argue but rather decided I was going to contact Corporate CS on Monday . I find contacting Corporate is easier then going to the CS desk anymore and the cashier didn’t even know about the policy- which extremely irritates me (and that is another issue I am going to discuss with corporate).
I went in today and asked at CS before shopping if I could use ECB from CVS or Walgreens catalinas that printed out. They were helpful, but the manager said she was going to say no. While I was shopping the manager emailed someone, I’m guessing corporate?, and they said yes they could take ECB, but not the catalinas with another logo on them. YIPEE! I got my whole shopping order paid for with coupons and Extra Care Bucks!! This was at the Mayfield Heights store in Cleveland.
