*NEW Update:

I just called Giant Eagle’s Customer Service to get the scoop on the Tuna Deal:)  They are always so nice and helpful on the phone.

Here are a few things I’ve learned….

*You CAN get a raincheck WITH the fuelperks INCLUDED!!  However, when using the raincheck and checking out, you’ll need to go to customer service so they can call and get the FP added to your account.

*The Giant Eagle stores CAN limit the amount you buy especially the independent stores. However if some stores are limiting and others are not, you may want to check around your local area if you are wanting to buy many to see what store to shop at.

*More Starkist is being stocked daily – but you’ll probably just have to be at the store at the right time to get it! (especially if your store is not limiting the amount each person buys)

I LOVED that this customer service guy actually knew what it was like to be a customer – he has 5 children and knows a good deal when he sees it:)  He bought 20 boxes of cereal and said that he will probably go back again to get more!  He also knew that the Starkist deal was Amazing and felt that it was fine to get many.  He felt that Starkist just wanted to move a lot of product quickly….well they sure know how to do that:)  We couponers will do our part to help them ;)

******************

My hubby was awesome enough to stop at Giant Eagle on his way to work this morning and test out the StarKist Tuna Deal for me!
He bought 24 packs in a single transaction and received the fuelperks with no problem!

I didn’t feel like cutting out the coupons last night and I didn’t want him to be at the grocery store any longer than he had to be so I will just be taking the coupons and the receipt with me when I go shopping. However, if they still have tuna when I go, I’ll just use my coupons on the new packs instead of getting reimbursed!

24 Starkist Tuna Packs = $30

(coupons will sweeten the deal, but even without any, it’s still AMAZING!)
Get $1.80 in fuelperks ($54 when you buy 30 gallons)
Final Price FREE Plus $24 Money Maker! (or better with coupons)

Neal must have been shopping super early as well – he tried the deal by buying 12 in one transaction. Also, he pointed out that they have Starkist Cardboard Displays with the pouches at the checkout!!  So if you don’t find any on the shelves be sure to look around other places :)

*I wanted to try out this deal not only to GET the deal, but to make sure that it worked…..it seemed WAY too good to be true ;)

*My receipt shows $1.90 in fuelperks instead of $1.80 since I also got 10¢ in regular fuelperks

(Thanks Dave (hubby) and Neal!)

*NEW UPDATE: thanks to Carli & John! The printable coupon DOES double, but the one from the 7/15 does not double.
30¢ fuelperks ($9 value wyb 30 gallons) wyb 4
Starkist Chunk Light Tuna Pouches $1.25

55¢/1 from 7/15 SS (DND), Printable (nla?) or Printable (DOUBLES!!)
Pay: As low as 60¢ for 4 and earn 30¢ fuelperks
Final Price: as low as 4 for FREE plus a HUGE Money Maker after fuelperks!

I just bought 24 too, Tammy, and the best news is the couple does double!! So we paid $3.60 OOP and received $1.80 in FP, a value of $54, for a $50.40 MM!! I did 2 separate transactions though. Great way to start the day :)

AWESOME!! What a HUGE Money Maker:) With the cereal deals and now the Tuna Deal – I’m LOVING Giant Eagle even more!

Same here! And the least frustrating part is how well they have stocked up (this used to be my biggest complaint whenever there were great sales)… well, at least the cereal and from the looks of it this morning, they have tons of tuna!

What coupons?

There is a .55 cent off one pouch in the 7/15 SS. I assume this is the one that was used, and it doubles, that would be great!

Actually, I used the $.55/1 IP… one of my stores still allows 12 in one transaction. I haven’t tested it with the SS paper one yet…

Tammy,

Did you use coupons for this deal? If so which ones (from 7/15 SS)? IP coupons? Mine state “DO NOT DOUBLE OR COMBINE”, whats the combine mean?? I know most of the coupons always have a 5 or a 9 and usually the 9 are the ones that won’t double, however this one doesn’t have a 5 or a 9 on it. Thoughts?

Seth – I didn’t send coupons with my hubby. However, Carli and John were able to confirm that the printed coupons doubled but the ones from the paper did not. I’m not sure what the “combine” means – maybe it means that at stores like Target and Rite Aid that you can’t combine this with in-store coupons? That’s just my guess though;)

Woohoo! Between the cereal deals & the tune deal, Giant Eagle is rockin’ this week! I just got back & got 24 pks of tuna & used a few cpns. Same as reported above, the paper ones did NOT double but the printables DID.

Well, I got to the stores too late, except fot the Westlake, Oh Promenade location. They had the tuna in oil, but are limiting the offer to four pouches per person. Boo.

My hubby accidentally bought the ones in oil:( I prefer the water ones, but we’ll still use it! I’m not surprised that they started to limit it. I’m guessing some people went crazy and the store saw that they were running out quickly. I sent my hubby back to the store after work to see if he could get some with water but the Robinson store was completely out by the time he got there.

Is there a limit on how much tuna can be purchased at one visit?

Reply

16 Tammy July 19, 2012 at 10:10 pm

My store did not have a limit when my hubby went early this morning, but some stores like Suzie’s in OH may start limiting the amount. Here store only allowed 4 per person. If this is the only thing you are shopping for, I would call ahead to see if they have any in stock and if they have a limit on them.

I bought 48 yesterday and still left plenty on the shelves and got $3.70 off per gallon in fuelperks! ($3.60 plus $0.10 for spending $50). I didn’t use any coupons and will make $51 (spent $60, will get $111 in gas)! Plus the packets have an expiration date in 2015. I think this might be the best (and easiest) deal I’ve ever gotten at Giant Eagle :D

went to 3 Giant eagle’s yesterday and there were none left- how pathetic to run a sale and not have enough stock to satisfy other customers. They should have limited it in the first place- now after running around and wasting gas, I think they owe me double fuel perks. I don’t mean to sound like a sour grape, but I’m getting tired of going to the store and everything being gone- and I can’t even get a raincheck for this. I think I will call and complain-grr..

why can’t you get a rain check for them?? My stores were out and I managed to get a few rain checks for my mom, brother and myself!

21 Suzie July 20, 2012 at 4:16 pm

My store said that the rainchecks would only be good on the sale price of the tuna, but that they could not (would not?) “raincheck” the fuelperks. Anyone know if that’s standard protocol?

Suzie – The customer service person I spoke to from their main Customer Service number (not just a particular store) said that they could give rain checks with the fuelperks but you would need to checkout at CS when buying the tuna so they could call and get the fuelperks put on. If your store tells you no…..I would call Cusomer service and speak to them and let them know which store. They can limit you though….so if you wanted to buy a LOT they might not allow more than a certain amount. HTH:)

Thank you, Tammy! What a way to help another person :) I rarely see that these days… if only more people would do things like that… :)

The Kennedy Township store’s shelves were completely cleared. I did get a raincheck, although it’s limited to 12 pouches, & there’s a time limit of a week.

I just bought 280 at the macedonia GE…they still have plenty left!

Reply

26 Isabelle July 22, 2012 at 10:07 am

I’m on a much smaller scale than 280, but when I’m getting bunches of things, if they’re in a box like the tuna pouches, I take the boxes. It keeps things a lot neater on the shelf at home.

27 Tammy July 22, 2012 at 8:30 pm

I kept the boxes too:) I would have never thought to do that but my hubby did when he went the first day….it does make it nice and neat:)

My store limited it to ONLY FOUR! Pathetic. I was so excited about this. Guess I’m going to do some research and find the next closest store.

29 Tammy July 22, 2012 at 8:29 pm

That stinks:( I would call around to see if other stores are limiting….however the odds of you getting them from stores that are not limiting is probably slim unless you get lucky…..I was totally shocked to see that my store had so many this morning!

I went to GE to use my coupons on some tuna and the first transaction went fine–got 12 packets and the coupons doubled. But when I went to use the same coupons on a second transaction for another 12 packets, the coupons did not double and the customer service girl told me I got lucky the first time because the coupon says “do not coupon” and it did. What I think happened is now the coupon policy says no more than 12 items with 12 coupons in a 24 hour period. So I will go back tomorrow and try again!

Kendal – It probably was that you used more than 12 “like” coupons the same day. I’m actually surprised the coupons even scanned.
